Oh you know, a little of this, a little of that.

Dawn of Victory (DoV) is a modification currently under development by Slipstream Productions for the RTS Sins of a Solar Empire. Dawn of Victory is a total conversion, replacing the game's original assets with completely new and diverse ships, structures, and gameplay elements. Dawn of Victory pits players as one of 3 intergalactic superpowers: the Democratic Federation, Greater German Reich, and the Soviet Union. These three factions wage war amongst themselves even as a greater threat, the Scinfaxi, threaten them all.

Story

While Dawn of Victory started out loosely based on Harry Turtledove’s “Worldwar” and “Colonization” book series, since then, the backstory has expanded to the point where it has taken on a life of its own.

For centuries an alien race known as the Scinfaxi had been the dominant power in the Orion region of space, their slow but steady expansion brought them into contact with dozens of other races, each one conquered and exterminated to provide the resources and material necessary to support the continually expanding empire.

In the 14th century, the first Scinfaxi probes reached Earth: it was surveyed, catalogued, and the plans were meticulously laid for its capture and assimilation. However, the Scinfaxi concept of time was very different from humanity's, and so when the first ships of the conquest fleet arrived in 1943, they were stunned to see Terran society had progressed to an industrial state in an unimaginable sliver of time. The initial landings took humanity by surprise, as the Scinfaxi advanced upon every continent.

It was in this darkest hour that what once divided humanity now brought it together, as the old prejudices were put aside and every free nation on Earth united against the alien aggressors. The tide turned in 1945 when the Soviet Union detonated an atomic bomb on its own soil, destroying a Scinfaxi landing site.

With the total conquest of Earth impossible without destroying everything of value, the Scinfaxi retreated to the Southern hemisphere, content with half the planet. Decades went by with no contact from the Scinfaxi, but as humanity grew bolder, the aliens' plans accelerated. As spacecraft from the last free nations made landfall, and eventually colonized new worlds, the Scinfaxi slowly began to advance. City after city was lost until, in a final act of desperation, the various Terran factions agreed to pursue a literal "scorched earth" policy, sacrificing their remaining positions to nuclear bombardment and quarantining the planet.

Humanity has expanded to the stars, and dozens of planets and moons now belong to the remaining Terran nations. There has been almost no contact with the Scinfaxi, and the former nations of Earth have become so complacent with their apparent safety that the old prejudices have returned and they once again war amongst themselves. The Scinfaxi are still expanding however, and it is only a matter of time before they decide to stamp out the potential usurpers; if humanity is allowed to advance another hundred years, it may be human soldiers landing on Scinfaxi worlds. The dawn of victory is approaching: the only question is which side will claim it.

Good things come to those who wait.

A couple questions for the devs regarding game lore.

1)While the Scinfaxi (obviously) had the highest level of technology during their first invasion, is that a fact when the game takes place? From their description they sound like a stagnant society who didn't bother developing further after they reached their "RAWR galactic conquerer stage".
2)Will there be any other alien races you can run into? Like militias or something?

If the Scinfaxi are the Race in spirit, they're not a stagnant society, they just move very very slowly. Researching things from every angle over centuries to get it perfect.

Suggestion:

Since the Scinfaxi are based on the Race, perhaps the human factions could research "Ginger Smuggling". It would decrease the allegiance of all Scinfaxi planets, but it would also increase the population rate. To counter perhaps the Scinfaxi would have more loyalty techs to help combat this.

In regards to the Scinfaxi, technology wise they are still slightly more advanced then the human nations, but the gap between them is steadily shrinking.
As for The Race, they were the one thing I really disliked about the books, the Scinfaxi will be very different in many aspects, so don’t count on ginger bombs.

Ahh... I really wanted to send their worlds into gigantic orgies.

Such disappointment is the price of using Turtledove as your inspiration. ;_;

What!? No ginger-fueled orgies? -10/10 for this mod. Reading about the Race blundering about in a blind, ginger-fueled sex-crazy lust was hilarious. Same with the inevitable prostitution.

I'm hoping this feeling I have, is the feeling that an update is near. The updates are generally so good that it makes the wait bearable, almost. I don't remember, but you guys got past the 5 caps, 5 frigates, 4 cruisers limits right? Hopfully we'll have like 8 caps (Heavy Battleship (Well balanced warship), Light Battleship (agile and resourceful warship), Heavy Carrier (Front line orientated carrier(more guns less fighters, but still a carrier), Super Carrier (enormous fighter/bomber coverage), Command Cruiser (Fleet buff based unit with coloinzation ability, average warship), Raider Battlecruiser (Fast, anti-small ship/anti-structure unit, weaker armor and shields), Dreadnought (Slow combat based warship, exceling at planetary destruction), and a high research requirement super capital ship, Basically a Super Heavy Dreadnought.)
Be nice to see around 3 strikecraft types, 2 corvettes, 6 frigates, 4 destroyers, 5 cruisers, and some more civilian units. Along with space bases and the like.

For those of you who enjoy forum games, and have nothing against Dawn of Victory, we’re restarting “Port Joe Smith” over at the Slipstream Forums. Now you too can have the chance to shape DoV history, our previous game resulted in the invasion of Tawhid space by a renegade DF Admiral, and shaped the shaped the foreign policy of the Japanese Empire.

For all the details go here, but you may need to register to view the forums

Game starts next week, so sign up fast, limited spots.

It would be nice to know when and if this thing will ever be completed. It's becoming more and more obvious that the developers of this mod are doing it more for themselves then anyone else. Random updates, no timeline, and no answers seems like the typical line of thought.

MOD looks amazing, love everything about it, but if no one can play it in the forseeable future IF EVER what's the point in updating with no information other than a "game".

Well yeah, we are doing this mod for ourselves. No one here is getting paid, we all have duties outside of the mod, and we're hardly a professional game development team. We just all happen to enjoy working on this project.

Yeah, how dare we tease you by spending countless hours of our own free time on this project, only to occasionally release updates! We certainly owe everything to you, dear anonymous fan. This project is dedicated to you and I am terribly sorry we could not meet your needs in a more efficient manner. I promise we will get our act together in the future!

From my understanding this has been under development for years? Did the format (Using SINS) affect everything else? I came across rather rudely for that I apologize. I've read most of the information on your site as well and also read most of Turtledoves work. Would love to actually play something along those lines. Lots of fun.
